Micro-features:

  • Mise-en-scene (150 words)
  • Camerawork (150 words)
  • Editing (150 words)
  • Sound (150 words)

Macro-features:

  • Genre (200 words)
  • Narrative (100 words)

Media theory

  • Employ the use of two different representation theories (choose from Tunstall, Connell and Alvarado’s theories) in relation to the film text (300 words)

Theory 1: Semiotics (Roland Barthes)

  • The idea that texts communicate their meanings through a process of signification
  • The idea that signs can function at the level of denotation, which invloves the ‘literal’ or common sense meaning of the sign, and at the level of connotation, which invloves the meanings associated with or suggested by the sign.

Denotation – Literal meaning of the image.                                                                      Connotation – The emotion/representation of the image.                                                 Polysemic – Multiple meanings behind something.
