Title Page

It is industry standard to have a title page with the title of the short film and the name of the writer. The words “written by” or “by” are used normally.

I have also stated when the script was created.

At the top of my first page, I have put the title of the film.

I introduce the story with an opening description. My description throughout the script is bold and enclosed in square brackets. This is common in scripts, and seperates the decription from the other text. I have also written all of my script in the font Courier New, 12 point.

I start the first act with the title “Act One”. FADE IN is used in most scripts for the introduction of the first scene (fading into the scene). In the sluglines, INT tells you whether the scene is inside a place (int) or outside (ext). HOUSE is the location of the scene, and DAY tells you whether it is day or night or evening etc.

All the dialogue is centred, which is industry standard for scripts. This separates it from the rest of the text so it is obvious when someone is talking. The character’s name is also centred and capitalised, which makes it clear who is talking. I have used parentheticals to describe actions the characters do whilst speaking, or to describe the way they ssay something.

I have used normal text to describe a character moving to a different room/place.

When there was a change of room, I have used the word SAME to describe the day or night, because the scene is at the same time as the previous. This makes it clear that it is the same time of the day, not another day.

The font “Courier New” is used in script writing because there is an equal space between each of the characters, and size 12 is used because it is good for the timing of the script. For example in a full length film, size 12 Courier New would make the script approximately 1 minute per page. There are double line spacing throughout the script, which makes it easier to read due to the fact that the text isn’t as compact and squashed together.
